One of our favourites and one of the first hills we rode. This is a real good training ride as its over 7 miles long , varies in gradient and intensity with stunning scenery. You can pick it up in Stroud on the B4070 which brings you out at either the Buckholt Wood downhill or the steeper one of Birdlip Hill if you want to head back towards Gloucester or Cheltenham. It's a fairly gentle introduction as the gradient doesn’t go above 4% for the first 2 miles as you go towards Slad. Just before The Woolpack pub in Slad and just after the road ramps up with percentages between 4 and 8% from mile 2 - 3.5. Particularly as you ride out of Slad you start to hit 8, 9 and 10 percenters. After The Bulls Cross section the road plateaus out somewhat for the remaining 4 miles where you can really push and test your fitness levels to Birdlip. Another plus for us is the road is relatively quiet all year round allowing you to relax and push on. A real treat this one with an average gradient of just 2%.
